Texas tiene más agencias participantes en 287(g) que cualquier otro estado — 369 en la lista publicada de ICE — un total impulsado marcadamente al alza por el Senate Bill 8, que desde enero ahora exige que los alguaciles de los condados con más de 100,000 personas firmen acuerdos con las autoridades federales de inmigración. La aplicación de ese mandato es ahora la disputa central, con el Attorney General Ken Paxton presionando al condado de Dallas para que cumpla mientras su alguacil y la ciudad de Dallas se resisten.
